AMERICAN LEGION HELLGATE POST #27
Proud Sponsors of the Missoula Mavericks!
Welcome to another exciting year of American Legion Baseball in the Missoula community! Hellgate Post #27 of the American Legion was chartered in 1920 and serves as the lease-holder for the American Legion Baseball Park. The American Legion has the primary responsibility for the maintenance of the park as well as coordination of the construction of the facility’s buildings. The Hellgate Post has sponsored American Legion Baseball in the Missoula area since 1925, and has played ball at several sites over time throughout the Missoula area. In 1984, a lease agreement was drawn up between the American Legion and Missoula County at which time the construction of the present facility began. The first Legion Baseball game was played at this site in June of 1987. The current playing field is known as Lindborg-Cregg Memorial Field and is recognized as one of the finest in the Northwest.
In 1998, the American Legion Hellgate Post voted to name this park and complex encompassing Lindborg- Cregg Field and the larger 17-acre area upon which the field is located to honor the Legionnaire who has been the driving force in the development of this fine facility; Mr. Dale Dahlgren. Without Dale’s endless energy and dedication to American Legion Baseball, and to Missoula area youth, you would not see a baseball complex anywhere near the quality of what you see here today. Recent construction as well as the improvements to the bleacher areas cost the American Legion and the Mavericks group more than $100,000. This complex is known as the “Dale Dahlgren American Legion Baseball Complex”.
The complex is served by Hellgate Post #27 along with several members of the Missoula Mavericks Legion Baseball Program in the upkeep and maintenance of this great facility. To date, the Hellgate Post of American Legion has invested over $300,000 in the development of this outstanding baseball park. It is the sincere hope of both the American Legion and the Missoula Mavericks that your visits to the ballpark will be enjoyable.
